I'm in this year's production of Carmen at the Sarasota Opera as one of the supernumeraries. Some of those kids who were little in the 2018 production, shown here, are the big kids in this year's production. We have a strong youth opera program and that's why the kids are so good. BTW we've done six performances and all have been sellouts or close to it!

63 years ago I was part of the children’s chorus who sang this at the Newark (NJ) Opera House. Unfortunately, the experience was lost on me over the years - except for the 1st 3 notes! I’ve gone a lifetime wondering about it, and only the magic of Google & UA-cam brought it to life in its entirety (not our performance, but this modern one). It was such an Aha moment…!!

Faithful to its biblical inspiration, Nabucco is an opera with shamelessly epic proportions. Governings defy their gods, love struggles against empire, and religious revelation goes hand in hand with divine retribution. Giuseppe Verdi's inspired treatment of Israelite slavery and Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar's dramatic conversion to Judaism captivated audiences of the time in a borrowed metaphor of freedom. The young composer gave voice to a bubbling Italian nationalism, which was soon to explode with incendiary force. The opera's most famous passage, being this one, became the unofficial anthem of the Italian independence movement, and the score is filled with musical ideas showing Verdi's ability to innovate the lyrical convention in the service of character development and psychological depth. Prefiguring his mature works, the opera Nabucco shows us a young composer who begins to grasp the full extent and power of his artistic vision. Musically, In a brief orchestral introduction, the initial sonorities, dark and mysterious, alternate with the sudden violence of the strings in tremolo on the bass arpeggios and the last measures, with the ornamentations of flutes and clarinets pianissimo, seem to evoke the dear places and distant places spoken of in the verses. Lyric opera for Choir and Orchestra : Nabucco in F-sharp major, Act III. Scene 4, Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate (Chorus of Slaves). All my gratitude to Giuseppe Verdi and the Sarasota Opera. *Lucien*

You’re the first voice I’ve heard that I know for a fact can break glass. Your vocal power sounds like a physical force, you can’t hear how loud it is over camera, but you can hear and even see how it effects the camera. Your seemingly innocent vocal waves come from your pretty little mouth and slowly pour out until it fills the whole room, then as if it was a controlled explosive demolition , you activate the vibrato, and all the sound waves your previous note overflowed into and filled the room with come crashing down in a glass shattering, earth quake vibrating power. All your vocal waves hit at once, I’ve never heard anything like it. Like you are charging them up in a powerful vocal wave ball above you, then when the note ball is full and resonant , you push it out into the concert hall, almost destroying the camera ( as evident by the digital clicks and distortion on all your power notes in every video) and then crashed down on everything in the room. The audience and a glass object, windows and all, are subject to the mercy of your vibrato blast
